This year, at Lockwood High School, he clinched gold in both the 60-meter and 100-meter dashes for the 85-plus age division.

Britton, from Froid, has also been associated with the games since 1993. Always enthusiastic, he joined a 400 relay team on a fellow competitor’s request, proving his unwavering spirit and love for the sport.

He believes that running and walking are key to longevity, an idea backed by his own daily three-mile routine. Britton, a retired school superintendent and U.S. Army veteran, has made the 325-mile journey from Froid to Billings for the games each year.

Originally from Loma and a 1954 Fort Benton High School graduate, Britton’s professional journey saw him overseeing schools in Westby, Whitewater, Peerless, and Froid. His athletic involvement extends to coaching his daughters, who also competed in the games.

The Big Sky State Games hold a special place in Britton’s heart, fostering camaraderie and offering a respite from the stresses of life. He continues his tradition of participating and volunteering, all while inspiring younger generations, including his 15-year-old granddaughter, Brielle, to take part in these enriching experiences.
